CCC Webinar - CMD Detection by DAS-ELISA and ICG Strip Test

BIOTEC monoclonal antibody production and application research team led by Dr Oraprapai Gajanandana, Dr Channarong Seepiban and Dr Saengsoon Charoenvilaisiri delivered presentations on “Cassava mosaic disease (CMD) and its management” on 1 August 2022 as part of the training activities under the CCC project.

The key technology for CMD detection developed at BIOTEC is called the double-antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (DAS-ELISA) and Immunochromatographic (ICG) strip test. Dr Seepiban presented a promising result from his team’s research. “The accuracy of the DAS-ELISA and ICG strip test is 96% compared to the standard method (PCR) [for CMD detection], which is quite good”. He also added that the test can be used in several applications from CMD screening of cassava stems before planting to an inspection of CMD in cassava stems in the production fields before harvesting. Towards the end of the talk, Dr Charoenvilaisiri showed detailed data on how the diagnostic technologies for CMD detection developed by their team have been adopted by several cassava stakeholders in Thailand such as Ajinomoto.
