Join us next Wednesday, 28 August 2024, to explore how Malaysia is turning waste into wealth through various food waste utilization initiatives
This talk will showcase Malaysia’s innovative approaches to food waste utilization, featuring a range of bio-based companies such as MAEKO, Entomal, and Fat Hopes Energy. With Malaysians generating over 17,000 tonnes of food waste daily, these companies are transforming that waste into valuable resources.
MAEKO: Converts food waste into nutrient-rich compost using patented technology.
Entomal: Upcycles food and agricultural waste into high-value animal feed and organic fertilizers using Black Soldier Fly larvae.
Fat Hopes Energy: Collects and purifies used cooking oil for advanced biofuel production.
These companies receive comprehensive support through the Bio-based Accelerator (BBA) Programme and are able to hire and train local biotechnology graduates via the BioAcademy initiative, thus addressing unemployment and boosting Malaysia's bioeconomy through sustainable practices.
Our speaker, Dr. Faizal Hamid, Assistant Vice President, Industry Development Division, Bioeconomy Corporation, Malaysia, has a strong background in biotechnology and extensive experience in the biotechnology and innovation sectors. He has previously worked with Agensi Inovasi Malaysia (AIM) and other organizations, and his current role focuses on supporting the development of the bio-based industry in Malaysia, particularly through programs like the Bio-based Accelerator (BBA), which provides comprehensive support for bio-based MSMEs to create job opportunities and strengthen the country's bioeconomy by fostering innovation and sustainability.
