Food insecurity: Research Institute to provide improved cassava variety
The National Root Crop Research Institute (NRCRI) in Umudike, Abia State, plans to release an improved cassava variety to enhance food production. Led by Executive Director Professor Chidozie Egesi, the institute aims to increase cassava's nutritional value, having developed 54 improved varieties. At a training session organized by Izu Blessed Agricultural Training and Investment Ltd, farmers learned about cassava pest control. Abia State's Commissioner for Agriculture, Professor Monica Ironkwe, emphasized the importance of revitalizing agriculture for economic recovery, echoing Dr. Michael Okpara's agric revolution. Participants received free knapsack sprayers as part of NGO empowerment efforts.
