Bill & Melinda Gates Grant Awarded to Boost Cassava Production
The Cassava Source-Sink (CASS) project, hosted by FAU, has secured a substantial $28 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Agricultural Innovations. Over the next five years, the project aims to significantly enhance cassava yields in sub-Saharan Africa. This investment will primarily support research and breeding efforts focused on developing cassava varieties with higher yields for smallholder farmers. Aligned with Gates Ag One's commitment to improving key food crops in Africa and South Asia, this collaborative project involves global institutions, marking a significant step forward in transforming cassava production and bolstering food security in the region.
