In 2023, Vietnam's cassava starch export value reached USD 1.03 billion, reflecting a robust demand that has continued into 2024, with exports totaling nearly USD 484 million from January to May. The global market for cassava starch is projected to expand further in the coming years, driven by its diverse applications in industries such as food, textiles, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and animal feed. The increasing popularity of gluten-free products and the rising demand for desserts are particularly enhancing the prospects for cassava starch.

Vietnam has established a comprehensive supply chain for cassava starch production, encompassing cultivation, processing, packaging, and export. The primary production regions are the Mekong Delta and the Central Highlands, contributing to an estimated annual output of 2-3 million tons. Major export destinations include China, India, EU countries, and other Southeast Asian nations. 

According to recent analyses, the cassava starch export market spans Asia, Europe, and Southeast Asia, with China identified as the largest importer. Key companies involved in the importation of Vietnamese cassava starch include Xiamen Haixia Investment Co., Ltd., China SDIC International Trade Co., Ltd., and Xiamen Port Trading Co., Ltd. Most exporters are domestic producers, with a minority being subsidiaries of international firms. Prominent exporters include APF Co., Ltd, FOCOCEV Co., Ltd, and Cong Ty TNHH Tin Duong Tay Ninh.

With global demand for cassava continuing to rise, Vietnam's cassava starch market possesses significant growth potential. The product's versatility, cost-effectiveness, and adaptability in various applications position it as a vital component in both domestic and international markets. The Vietnamese government is actively implementing policies to bolster the cassava starch industry, further enhancing its export capabilities.
