The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, alongside the FAO, hosted the National Investment Forum for Sustainable Agriculture in Vientiane on April 21. This inaugural forum emphasized Laos' transition towards sustainable agriculture, crucial for its development from a Least Developed to a Middle Income Country, aligning with the Smooth Transition Strategy. With agriculture being a cornerstone of the Lao economy, Deputy Minister Vongmany highlighted its significance in the 9th National Socio-Economic Development Plan. Stressing collective responsibility, he urged all sectors to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for an inclusive future.

FAO Representative Nasar Hayat emphasized the need for innovative and sustainable agricultural practices to address global food security challenges. He encouraged private sector participation and highlighted initiatives like FAO's Hand in Hand Initiative, fostering partnerships for sustainable development. The forum aimed to foster dialogue among stakeholders, offering insights into Laos' business landscape and showcasing incentives provided by the government and the Bank of the Lao PDR to attract private sector investment in agriculture.
