The Progress of Cassava Starch Improvement on the 12th Annual Starch Value Chain Asian Summit
Professor Peng Zhang participated in the 12th Starch Value Chain Asian Summit in Laos from February 27th to 29th, presenting on genome editing technology's role in enhancing cassava starch. The event, supported by USDA, Winrock International, Thai Wah PLC, and Larsson, united industry leaders, experts, and entrepreneurs to discuss sustainable growth and innovation in the starch value chain.
During the summit, attendees visited the Cassava Stem Seed Rapid Propagation Center and KT Agricultural Development Tapioca Processing Factory in Laos. These visits facilitated knowledge exchange on cassava research, pathogen control, seedling propagation, cultivation, and processing in the region.
The summit showcased China's advancements in cassava starch quality enhancement through genetic improvement. Moreover, it provided insights into the cassava industry's landscape and development trajectory in Laos and other Southeast Asian nations. It also aimed to foster collaboration and technology transfer in the cassava industry along the Belt and Road initiative, promoting mutual growth and innovation.
